Grab your ticket and your suitcase and get ready to experience this great big southern land as Journey Beyond’s luxury Australian train journey, the Great Southern prepares to roll along the east coast of Australia once again.
Now in it’s third year, the seasonal summer journey has joined the likes of the Ghan and the Indian Pacific as one of the most iconic rail journeys in the southern hemisphere.
“Demand for the journey has become incredibly strong” says Group Marketing Manager Christopher Winn. “In year One Coffs Harbour hosted over 2800 guests over a 7-week period. In 2020, Covid 19 lockdowns and border closures meant only a couple of journeys could proceed but in 2021, it’s back to full steam – excuse the pun!”.
Coffs Harbour will host 9 return journeys between Brisbane and Adelaide and Pacific Bay Resort will once again play host to guests who will enjoy an intimate beachside dinner event at Charlesworth Bay Beach, each Monday evening on the southbound route.
Guests on the North bound route enjoy the chance to discover the natural wonders of Coffs Harbours beaches and historic Jetty and Harbourside markets, or the views from Sealy Lookout when they disembark for an off-train excursion each Sunday.
“It’s an incredible chance to showcase our wonderful area. Imagine 200 guests from all parts of Australia, discovering the Coffs Coast for the first time. It’s just good tourism that delivers on so many levels!” Says Christopher.
Guests enjoying the beachside dinner are treated to many of the flavours of the Coffs Coast food bowl. Locally caught fresh seafood features on the menu, together with Dorrigo potatoes, beef from the North Coast, local blueberries and local Coffs Harbour bananas.
