Two local Coffs Harbour restaurants have been given the nod of approval by the Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Awards. The 2019 Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised and independently judged program that recognises exceptional service and culinary talent across Australia.
Bonville Golf Resort’s Flooded Gums Restaurant has been named a finalist in the ‘Restaurant in a Hotel/Resort’ category for NSW and has for the first time been joined by Pacific Bay Resort’s Bayside Bar and Grill which has also been listed as a finalist in the same category. The restaurants which are under common ownership have built a simple and effective recipe for success that includes superb food and attentive service set in a relaxing environment.
Bayside Bar and Grill opened for trade just 18 months ago and has recently refreshed its menu as it looks to match it with the best resort restaurants in NSW. Executive Head Chef Darren Ryan oversees both restaurants and says that Bayside Bar and Grill is one to watch. “We’ve been hard at work refining our menu” adding “It’s such a nice place to relax for lunch and our dinner menu has been receiving some really positive feedback. It’s great to see so many locals enjoying the restaurant too.”

Popular on the Bayside dinner menu is the Braised pork belly with pickled garlic chive puree, black garlic rosemary spätzle, confit garlic and fennel compote. For the sweet tooth Darren says the Vanilla chocolate Affogato with honeycomb and macadamia praline is hard to beat. “It’s worth a visit just for the Affogato” he says.
Since opening under new independent management in early 2018, Pacific Bay Resort has continued its refurbishment program which has included painting the restaurant, new lighting, beautification of the lagoons and the return of its famous Koi fish. Both Flooded Gums and Bayside Bar and Grill join the likes of other prominent NSW restaurants including Restaurant Botanica at Spicers Vineyard Estate in Pokolbin and Wolgan Dining Room in the Wolgan Valley in the category with the winner to be announced on 16th September.
